Students
Will Shout 'Facts Out Loud' on Referendum Vote
The outcome of January's special election on
proposed tax increases will directly affect students
at Clackamas Community College, says Alyssa Fava,
president of the Associated Student Government
(ASG). She's working with the student leadership
team to bring the facts about the potential effects
of the referendums on the ballot for the January 26
special election to the campus.
"Facts Out Loud" on Monday, Nov. 23, is the first of
two informational events the ASG will host in
November around the ballot measures. Students will
be strategically located around campus to literally
shout out the facts around the ballot measures. Fava
and organizer Quyen Thoi are working closely with
the college administration to identify the potential
effects of the measures on students including
possible tuition increases, and reductions in course
offerings, programs and staff positions.
About 20 students are
expected to participate in "Facts Out Loud," most
from the college's Speech Department.
On Tuesday, Nov. 24, ASG will host a debate about
the ballot measures from noon to 2 p.m. in the quad
outside the college's Community Center. Two more
events are planned for January.
For more information, contact Mindy Brown at
503-657-6958, ext. 2250. |

Help
hungry kids
If your office/business or
organization is looking for a worthy cause to support this
holiday season, or all year long, you can help hungry kids.
North Clackamas School
District, NCSD, helps many students who do not have enough food
at home with their “back pack program”. The program was
developed to help these students by providing them with a back
pack full of food to tie them over from Friday afternoon,
through the weekend until Monday morning. It costs $125 to
feed one child for a year... 39 weekends... about $3.25 per
weekend; two ready to eat meals per weekend.
Participants have several
options: adopt a student; adopt an entire school; provide ready
to eat foods or donate cash which helps the school district
purchase food at a discount. If you choose to donate foods,
some options are: Granola bars, Fruit cups, Pull tab/pop top
cans of noodles, protein, Cans of protein, Peanut butter (15 oz
is a good size) Peanut butter or cheese crackers, Raisins, Juice
boxes, Apple sauce - peel foil, Trail mix, nuts in small sizes,
Fruit-apples, oranges etc., Soup. Another option would be
to go in with another supporting organization to fill a greater
need.
For more information about
this great project contact Joe Krumm APR, Director Community and
Government Relations North Clackamas Schools at 503-353-6017
