BUSINESSBRIEFS

Local business participates in challenge

This year, the Drive Less Save More Family Challenge will add the business component by including Amicus Data.  Sheldon Penner, owner of Amicus Data, and his wife Susan will participate in the challenge and learn to save money and time using proven techniques to shave off miles, time and dollars.

The challenge takes average families and helps them put their skills to the test in a weeklong challenge against themselves.  Each family works with experts who provide the latest drive less tools and resources.  Family members learn mileage-reducing, money saving ways to maximize driving, while taking advantage of transit, biking and more.  At the end of the week-long event, the family who reduces the most miles wins the grand prize that includes a $300 stay at the Inn at Spanish Head in Lincoln City!

Amicus Data has been a member of the North Clackamas County Chamber of Commerce since 2002 with Penner serving as a member of the Board of Directors since 2004. Amicus Data will be the first participant of the Drive Less Save More challenge from Clackamas County. “I’m open to learn what I can to help me with all the driving I do for business.  If fact, I drove over 200 miles in one day, just in the metro region, to service my clients and their computer needs” stated Penner at a pre-meeting with Kelley Stoner of Drive Less Save More.  I am probably a typical business owner who needs my car to do business, traveling around the region meeting with clients and doing business.  If there’s a way to help with time and mileage, I’m ready to learn”.   Penner and his wife will be working with Clackamas TMA Director, Sandi Burns, during the course of the week before and week of challenge. Burns will be developing a trip planning strategy to see how transit will assist in reducing miles and time and saving money.

This year, by adding Amicus Data, we can put the business travel to the test and show other business leaders how to save time and money in their daily business travel.  Sheldon and Susan are a good fit for this and I’m really excited to incorporate Clackamas County into the challenge” Stoner said.

The kick off for the challenge will be Friday October 9 at Pioneer Courthouse Square with the challenge being the week of October 11 – 17.  Each family will receive a Drive Less Kit that includes handy organizers, gift certificates for home delivery services, transit tickets, biking and walking gear and more.

After the kick-off event, the Drive Less Family Challenge will then run for one full week. Experts will be on-hand throughout the competition to assist the challenge families in carrying out their drive less plans. Each family will be asked to keep an online blog of their daily experiences during the challenge.

At the end of the challenge week, contest officials will determine how many miles each family was able to shave off.  The family who reduces the most miles takes the grand prize!  For more about the challenge, visit drivelessavemore.com.
