Holiday events abound in the area
 

Umbrellas aren’t just for keeping the rain off!  In Milwaukie they’ve turned umbrellas into reasons for a parade during the holiday season. Bring your decorated umbrella and meet at the Waldorf School parking lot off 21st and Monroe at 3:15 on Saturday, December 5. The parade of fun folks and fun umbrellas will head up Main Street, loop around the Post Office and end up at City Hall. The traditional Umbrella Parade is followed by the community tree lighting, which takes place at City Hall. Santa and the Pioneer Chorus will join the parade revelers.

 

Also in Milwaukie you can participate in the downtown passport game. Get stamps on a passport which will be handed out at the parade and lighting event, and you could win prizes. More details will be at the event December 5.

 

The Winter Solstice Celebration in Milwaukie, at the riverfront, will be December 19 from 4:30 to 6:30. Watch the Christmas ships, warm by the bonfire, enjoying visiting with neighbors. Refreshments will be available to purchase.

 

Meanwhile, in Boring the Fire district is involved with a number of community events and invites everyone to join in. December 1st the Giving Trees will be put up, with gift ideas for local children. The annual Dinner for Toys is Tuesday evening December 8. Canned food will be collected and food baskets packed on the 15th, and on the 17th the gifts from the Giving Tree will be collected. All these great items will be wrapped and packed that evening, and delivered Saturday, December 19. You can attend, volunteer to help, buy gifts, give food, or provide cash for buying.

 

Damascus hosts a holiday open house at City Hall on December 14 from 5:30 to 7:30. lots of fun activities going on, including face painting, photos with Santa, the Giving Tree and much more.

 

Happy Valley begins the holiday celebration with a tree lighting and other activities at the new city Hall on Sunday, December 6. beginning at 4 pm enjoy horse drawn carriage rides, food & beverages, Santa and caroling. Santa arrives at 5 and tree lighting will take place at 5:30. the city is also asking the attendees bring canned food for the food drive for those in need.
