Marc Burnham, AMR Operations Manager Receives Two Special Honors
October was an exciting month for Marc Burnham, EMT-B, Operations
Manager for AMR’s Special Services Division. During the first two days
of October, Marc was the recipient of not just one, but two special
awards.
Patriotic Employer Award from Department of Defense
Marc was selected to receive the Patriot Employer Award for
“contributing to National Security and protecting liberty and freedom by
supporting employee participation in American’s National Guard and
Reserve Force.”
AMR’s Stephen Gerard, EMT-B submitted the nomination during his
deployment to Iraq (June 10, 2008 to August 3, 2009). Stephen’s
nomination states, “Marc is a rare understanding type of supervisor that
I wish all soldiers could work for…he [always] made it very clear that I
had my job waiting for me — guaranteed work. Please honor Marc with the
highest level of recognition you can give.”
Marc
later described October 1 as an ordinary afternoon at Clackamas
Operations — until the big black, “government” SUV pulled into the
visitor parking lot. Heads turned as two men strode into operations and
identified themselves as officials from the Department of Defense. Marc
was then notified he had been selected to receive the Patriotic Employer
of the Year Award. Marc was stunned and speechless — something that
rarely happens.
OR EMS Administrator of the Year Award
This EMS award “honors an EMS system administrator who has distinguished
him/herself through noteworthy contribution to a local, regional or
statewide EMS system.” Marc was nominated for the Oregon EMS
Administrator of the Year Award by State Representative and Speaker of
the House, Dave Hunt. In his nomination letter Representative Hunt
states, “Mr. Burnham is an outstanding leader. He served at the policy
level and the grassroots level to provide service to the people of
Oregon.
Marc’s daily demonstration of commitment, integrity, professionalism and
compassion truly embody the traits expected of the EMS Administrator of
the Year.” Marc was presented the award by Dr. Ritu Sahni, Medical
Director of Oregon EMS & Trauma Systems and Bob Leopold, Oregon Director
of EMS & Trauma Systems at the EMS Awards Banquet held October 2, 2009
in Portland.
Marc is an exemplary leader. He is well liked, creative, and passionate
about his job and helping others. It is common to see Marc jump in an
ambulance or wheelchair van when SSD gets busy, as well as taking some
of the long distance transfers nobody else wants. He leads by example
and has made remarkable progress with SSD since he took the reins.
Congratulations Marc! We are happy and proud to have you as a member of
the AMR team. |
