MEMBERSERVICES Meet T.C. Pinyon
Your Chamber has a guardian, standing tall and firm (very firm) in the entry of the office.
Thanks to chamber member Leo Liu, Citslinc Tours, a full size stone replica of a Chinese Terra Cotta Warrior was delivered to the office a couple weeks ago.
Named T.C. Pinyon by Chamber staff tour coordinator Diane Bonczkowski, the T.C. stands for Terra Cotta, and Pinyon is the Chinese word for guardian. T.C. weighs 625 pounds!
The statue exemplifies the members of the army found in the Xi’an area of China. The Terracotta Army had lain underground for more than 2000 years. However, in 1974, farmers digging a well uncovered one of the greatest archaeological sites in the world.
Excavation of the earth and timber vaults revealed thousands of life-size terracotta warriors in battle formation - a whole army which would accompany its emperor into immortality. Each figure is life size, including carriages, horses and people. The find is considered the eight wonder of the world.
Thanks to Chamber member Sheldon Penner (Amicus Data) who spent a day uncrating T.C. Photos of the statue are on the Chamber’s Facebook page; or stop by the office and get a photo with the artifact. Consider a trip to China, arranged through Your Chamber, where you can visit the real thing. For information about the next tour to China, see Diane at the Chamber office.
