The Executive Voice
I would like to thank North Clackamas County Chamber of Commerce and its membership for the opportunity to serve as Chair. I would also like to thank my employees at Bernards Garage because I frankly could not do this without them. I will lead as an example to all members that there is time to get involved and you can make a difference. Membership in the Chamber is what you put into it and I can assure you that the reward of involvement is invaluable. While we ask a lot of members we also provide numerous choices. I urge you to get involved.
When I graduated from college I never imagined that I would buy Bernard’s Garage from my father, become president of the Automotive Service Association of Portland, become Mayor of Milwaukie, and finally become Chair of the Chamber. Strangely enough I never planned to follow in my father’s footsteps even though I have always admired his contribution to the community. Without question the Automotive Industry, the City of Milwaukie, Bernard’s Garage, and the North Clackamas County Chamber of Commerce are not the same as they were when my father did all these jobs. All you need to do is open the hood of a car, walk down the streets of Milwaukie, and talk to our diverse membership.
We live at an incredible time in history and I hope all of you will take advantage of the possibilities and visualize a future that promotes the environment, community, and business; So that future generations can look back and be proud of what you have done.
Finally I have enjoyed working with all the board members and especially serving as Chair-Elect to Annette Matteson she has been tireless and example to all of us. I look forward to working with Joe Krumm as the Chair-Elect, the executive board, board members, and all of you through 2007 and 2008. So start your engine, rev up, release the brake, put it in gear, and put it to the floor, let’s be the driving force for Clackamas County and the Metro region.
