The Clackamas County Recycle at Work program is offering to help county businesses recycle fluorescent bulbs.

“These lamps are the largest source of mercury in our waste stream, and mercury is extremely toxic,” said Clackamas County Recycle at Work Specialist Julane Potter. Recycle at Work is an initiative of Clackamas County’s Office of Sustainability.

The program allows qualifying Clackamas County businesses to recycle up to 30 bulbs for free in 2014 by following these steps:

    • Meet with the county’s Recycle at Work specialist to obtain a waste review and a bulb collection container.
    • Collect the bulbs over the course of this year.
    • Complete an inventory form and schedule an appointment with Metro South’s hazardous waste facility in Oregon City to drop off the bulbs.
    • Drop off the bulbs for recycling before December 31.

For more information, contact Julane Potter at 503.742.4458, by email  or their website.
