Longtime instructor Robert Sherk has been named the Oregon Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Network’s 2013 “State Star.” The award is made annually to individuals who make significant contributions to the regional SBDC program and show a strong commitment to small business.

Sherk has been an instructor in the Oregon SBDC system for nearly 15 years and is currently teaching in the Clackamas SBDC Small Business Management program. Hundreds of successful businesses in Clackamas County and throughout the state have benefited from his guidance and expertise. As a nationally renowned marketing expert, Sherk has shared his knowledge with SBDC colleagues across the country.

Colleagues describe Sherk as passionate about business and teaching as well as the success of the people he counsels. “He is a great instructor,” said Lindsey Newkirk, an SBDC student. “Bob has become a counselor on life, careers and relationships. He truly wants each of us to succeed.”

Sherk will represent Oregon at a gala reception at the annual “America’s SBDC” (ASBDC) Conference in Orlando on September 9. ASBDC consists of 63 SBDC networks throughout the United States and its territories.
