More than 115 people gained training and jobs in health care through the Healthcare Occupations Pathways to Employment (HOPE) grant at Clackamas Community College over the past three years. The grant, a consortium of seven Oregon community colleges and WorkSource system partners, ended in June 2013.

Over the past three years, the Department of Labor grant provided funding to train, place and retain Oregonians in the health care field. HOPE utilizes the Oregon Career Pathways model to deliver training for in-demand health care occupations that lead to credentials recognized by industry. By aligning trainings with existing career pathways, participants were able to upgrade existing skills to higher wage positions in the health care field.

The grant was aimed at unemployed, dislocated and incumbent workers facing barriers to employment. Participants were referred to the program by sources such as the Oregon Employment Department and WorkSource Clackamas, workforce services located at Clackamas Community College. Health Science instructors at CCC provided the instruction and training.

Participants in the program at CCC received training and were placed in jobs in health care fields including certified nursing assistants, clinical lab assistants, dental assistants, emergency medical technicians, medical assistants and others.
