House Bill 3521 uses tested technology to increase voter participation and enhance the security of Oregon’s elections system

Secretary of State Kate Brown applauded the Oregon House for approving a bill that will ensure virtually every eligible Oregon voter who wants to cast a ballot on Election Day is able to do so.

“House Bill 3521 uses time-tested technology to put a ballot in the hands of eligible Oregon voters while increasing the security of our elections system.” said Secretary Brown. “As Oregon’s chief elections officer, I am constantly looking for ways to improve our voting system.”

Rep. Lew Frederick, D-Portland, carried the bill on the House floor.

“All eligible voters – urban or rural, newly 18 or many years retired – should be able to cast a ballot on Election Day if they want to do so,” said Rep. Frederick. “House Bill 3521 will put a ballot in the hands of every eligible Oregonian, which will encourage engagement in our democracy and remove a barrier to voting, one of our most fundamental rights as citizens.”

HB 3521 passed 32 to 28. It employs the same secure technology used in Oregon’s groundbreaking online voter registration system.[/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]
