From high school band competitions to winter concerts, Clackamas Community College (CCC) is showcasing the talent of student musicians during March. Here’s the March music event line-up:

  • March 7 & 9: The Unistus Chamber Choir presents “From Renaissance to Britten” These two performances are directed by CCC music faculty Lonnie Cline. The Friday, March 7, concert begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Milwaukie Lutheran Church, 3810 SE Lake Road. The Sunday, March 9, concert begins at 7:30 p.m. at Gethsemane Lutheran Church, 11560 SE Market St., Portland. Admission: $12 adults; $7 seniors and students; $5 youth; free for children age 5 and under.
  • March 11: Ninth Annual Northwest Invitational High School Concert Band Contest
    Oregon high school bands compete to qualify for the Oregon School Activities Association State Band Championship. The competition will take place in the Niemeyer Center from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • March 13: 31st Annual Vocal Jazz Festival
    Top high school vocal jazz ensembles from around the Northwest gather to share their musical talents at CCC. The event takes place from 8:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. in the Niemeyer Center. At 5 p.m. Mainstream, CCC’s premiere vocal jazz group, will perform. The festival’s final playoff begins at 7:30 p.m. Following, CCC music instructor Dr. Kathleen Hollingsworth will perform with the CCC All-Star Rhythm Section. InnerCurrent, a new six-voice CCC vocal ensemble, will also perform. Admission is $5 at the door. For more information, call 503-594-6299.
  • March 14 & 15: The 43rd Annual Instrumental Jazz Festival
    Talented young musicians from middle, junior high and high schools in Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Canada will compete during the 43rd annual Instrumental Jazz Festival. The competition takes place on Friday, March 14, from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturday, March 15, from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. in the Niemeyer Center. Admission is $5 per person.
  • March 16: ‘Prayers for Rain’ CCC Chamber Choir Silent Auction and Performance. The CCC Chamber Choir performs at a fundraiser to benefit the student Music Club. A silent auction begins at 6:30 p.m., featuring the work of local artisans and businesses. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. and includes works by Victoria, Durufle and McFerrin; a special guest artist drummer from Ghana, Nii Ardey; and CCC’s very own LeaAnne DenBeste.   • March 17: Chamber Ensemble Winter Concert
    Director Lisa Hanson presents CCC’s Chamber Ensemble student groups. They will perform various selections from vocal, string and brass ensembles. The performance begins at 7 p.m. in the Niemeyer Center, N-119. Donations accepted
