Our county’s future leaders are this year’s students in high school. After a two year absence from our program lineup, those future leaders will once  again have the opportunity to examine a variety of aspects of the county, region and state as you and Your Chamber bring back Young Leaders’ Project.

A limited opportunity is available for you and your business to become a HERO for Young Leaders; to Help Establish Realistic Outcomes. Program sponsorship opportunities are in a variety of ranges, from being the name sponsor, eg., the XYZ Young Leaders’ Project, down to becoming a scholarship sponsor.

Wilda Parks, former CEO of the chamber and member of the task force to reinstitute YLP, noted that “The concept of the program, from it’s beginning several years ago, is to provide high school age students with the information to assess needs and opportunities in the county, region and state and how those fit with their leadership traits.” Parks and chair of the task force, Stephanie Rose, said the new program, funded by the business community, with assistance from public sources, will be based on similar premises from prior years. Twenty-five high school students from throughout the county will be selected to go to nine months of class, one day a month, alongside of members of Leadership Clackamas County.

Hundreds of young people are alumni of the program, many who now hold responsible positions in the area, are politically involved or are in post secondary educational classes. Many of their younger siblings and friends had been waiting to get into the program, only to see it take a hiatus in 2012.

Rose and Parks said, “It’s time to give these young people, and members of LCC, and even the day leaders and instructors of the class, the kind of program they all expect.” Which, Parks noted, is the only one of it’s kind in the state.

It can’t be done without you – the business community. All sponsorships provide year-round marketing and several chamber perks. Contact Diane at the chamber (diane@yourchamber.com) to request the sponsor info. Either Rose or Parks will then meet with you to help determine your level of support.

The task force thanks all potential HEROs in advance. The youth are ready, just waiting for the business people of the area to be their HERO.
